Splints

You can use splints to test for the presence of various gases. There are two types of splint available:

• Glowing splint
• Flaming splint.

Splints are extinguished when you put them into a liquid, but you can re-ignite them by placing them in the flame of the Bunsen burner or by pressing the 'Light' button on the toolbar.

Tips for use:

• Once you have collected a gas in a vessel, you must move the splint into it quickly. Gases diffuse out of open vessels, and the concentration of gas needed for the test to be successful may only last for a few seconds.
